Animal Body Gifts Rihanna Faux Fur Coat After She Was Spotted In Real Fur

February 28, 2023 at 12:08AM Animal advocacy group PETA has gifted a faux fur coat to Rihanna after the singer was spotted wearing what looked like a real fur coat at a dinner event. According to TMZ , PETA reached out to the 35-year-old popstar to urge her to steer away from wearing real fur coats. The animal rights organisation sent her a letter and a fur coat from Unreal Fur, which they claim will help the singer "stay warm and fashionable while making the cruelty-free switch".  Taking to Twitter, PETA also shared a snippet from the long letter with Rihanna's photo with the request. "We saw photos of you going to dinner in what appears to be a real fur coat. As a mother, you know what it's like to feel protective and to want to make sure no harm comes to your family. Please understand that this desire - this instinct even - is shared by the minks, foxes, and rabbits that are torn away from their families and killed for their fur," the text on the picture...

Citibank Removes Signboard From Iconic Kolkata Office After 121 Years

February 27, 2023 In what is termed as the 'end of an era', Citibank has taken down its signboard from its landmark Kanak Building office on Kolkata's Chowringhee road. The move comes in the wake of Axis Bank's acquisition of Citibank's India consumer business.  Notably, American banking major Citi entered India in 1902 and started the consumer banking business in 1985. It was at the Kolkata office where the bank started its operations in India. However, as part of the rebranding exercise with Axis bank, the landmark signboard has been removed.  Last year, Axis Bank announced it would acquire US-based Citi's consumer business in India for ₹ 12,325 crores in one of the largest deals in the Indian financial services space, which will help it close the gap with larger peers like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. "Axis Bank has grown all these years organically and has scaled well. But our aspirations are bigger. This deal gives us that strategic thrust to close the...

"If Its Basic Industry Is Terrorism...": S Jaishankar On Helping Pakistan

February 23, 2023 at 10:10PM External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday virtually dismissed the idea of helping Pakistan to come out of its economic mess. Speaking at the annual Asia Economic Dialogue organised by the external affairs ministry in Pune, Mr Jaishankar said he will consider the local public sentiment while making a big decision. "I would have a pulse (on) what do my people feel about it. And I think you know the answer," he said. Pakistan is grappling with an economic crisis and has not been successful in getting an agreement from multilateral institutions either. In the recent past, India has helped neighbours like Sri Lanka as it struggled to come out of its economic troubles and regularly helps others in the neighbourhood as well. However, when it comes to Pakistan, the fundamental issue impacting the New Delhi-Islamabad ties is terrorism, Mr Jaishankar said, adding that one must not be in denial of this problem. "No country is ever going to...

February 23, 2023 at 10:52PM The Indian women's cricket team fell at the penultimate hurdle as Australia book their seventh successive Women's T20 World Cup final spot. Despite a disappointing fielding performance, India did well with the bat in phases to come close to Australia's total of 172 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues kept India's hopes alive before the skipper got run out in the most bizarre fashion. When Harmanpreet was asked about her dismissal, she admitted that there can't be a more 'unlucky' way to get dismissed. It was the 15th over of India's chase, with Harmapreet keeping the team afloat. During the 4the delivery of the over, Harmanpreet's bat got stuck into the ground while running. The batter was found just inches shy of her crease as the bails were dislodged. The incident changed the momentum of the game, with Australia taking the driving seat. Speaking of the incident, Harmanpreet said that she couldn't have b...

February 23, 2023 at 11:11PM OpenAI's ChatGPT, which was launched in November last year, has exploded in popularity worldwide and has become the fastest-growing consumer application in history. The chatbot has been grabbing eyeballs with its ability to have natural conversations with users and answer a range of questions. Needless to say, the software's success has already ruffled some of the biggest technology firms, prompting Alphabet Inc and Microsoft Corp to hastily debut new functions in Google and Bing. As the AI race heats up, major tech companies in China are also scrambling to create their own homegrown version. Meanwhile, authorities are now clamping down on the usage of the chatbot, with several popular Chinese apps removing access to ChatGPT, as per a CNN report.  Though ChatGPT is not officially available in China, residents have been using virtual private networks and foreign phone numbers to help bypass restrictions. However, over the weekend, things seemed t...

"Ukraine Will Never Be A Victory For Russia": Joe Biden

February 21, 2023 at 11:37PM US President Joe Biden today said Ukraine would "never be a victory for Russia" as he delivered a speech in Poland ahead of the first anniversary of Moscow's invasion. "A dictator bent on rebuilding an empire will never be able to ease the people's love of liberty, brutality will never grind down the will of the free," he said in Warsaw. "Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia -- never," Biden told the crowd of several thousand people gathered outside the Royal Castle.  Speaking a day after his surprise trip to the Ukrainian capital, Biden said: "Kyiv stands strong, Kyiv stands proud, it stands tall and most importantly it stands free". Biden also responded to an anti-West speech made by Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier Tuesday. "The West is not plotting to attack Russia as Putin said today," Biden said.  "Millions of Russian citizens who only want to live in peace with their n...

Back To The Future: Air India Looks To Take Off With Mega-Purchase

February 21, 2023 at 11:31PM One of India's biggest and oldest conglomerates is returning to its roots with a multi-billion-dollar bet on the country's growing middle class and its demand for air travel. Air India was for many years under government ownership. Now back in the hands of its original private owners, it announced combined purchases of 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, which together form one of the largest orders in aviation history. The announcement comes a year after tea-to-software conglomerate Tata Group re-acquired the loss-making airline, founded by globetrotting Franco-Indian industrialist JRD Tata, who piloted its maiden flight in 1932. Reports say he described its post-Independence nationalisation as the saddest day of his life, frequently lamenting the loss. And it has haemorrhaged money in recent years, with successive governments spending nearly $15 billion to prop it up from 2009 until Tata bought it back in a $2.4 billion deal a year ago. ...
